MISSIONS

¡@¡@The WTO Center dedicates itself to research on WTO-related issues and to integrate research resources within Taiwan, with the aim of establishing an effective support system for government decision-making. The Center will also be working to raise awareness of WTO-related issues in Taiwan, and to cultivate expert manpower in the general field of WTO issues. The Center's main responsibilities include:
1. Undertaking research commissioned by government agencies on issues relating to the WTO, as well as bilateral and multilateral trade, in accordance with the needs of WTO participation.
2. Working to raise public awareness of WTO-related issues in accordance with the needs of WTO participation, so as to build a consensus within Taiwan regarding such participation.
3. Establishing a WTO database and publication of works relating to the WTO, so that the public would have access to information relating to the WTO and can thereby gain a better understanding of WTO-related issues and of Taiwan's participation within the WTO.
4. Cultivating manpower for WTO and international trade affairs, so as to improve the quality of all personnel (both government and private sector) participating in WTO affairs.
5. Undertaking academic exchange and collaborating with relevant research institutions in other WTO member nations on behalf of Taiwan, so as to establish an international network for academic research.
6. Undertaking other activities as may be necessary to meet the needs of Taiwan's participation within the WTO.

Our Vision for the Future

¡@¡@In the future, the Taiwan WTO Center will continue to develop its core capabilities, while also working to expand its training activities, participating actively in international exchange activities, and strengthening its ties with leading international think tanks and other WTO-related organizations. The Center¡¦s long-term vision is to build itself up into the heart of a major international academic network. By strengthening the Center¡¦s capabilities, it is anticipated that in addition to serving as Taiwan¡¦s leading research institute for WTO affairs and playing a major role in the cultivation of human resources needed for international trade negotiations, the Center will also come to play an important role in supporting the government¡¦s trade negotiations.
